Volunteers are an essential part of daily operations at Sarah's Inn and make important contributions toward ending domestic violence in the communities we serve.

 Crisis Line Volunteer Advocates

    • Sarah's Inn relies on compassionate, dedicated volunteers to help provide our free 24-hour crisis line service. Trained* volunteer advocates answer phone calls on the crisis line to help families in crisis obtain information about safety, shelter, legal support, police support, and services at Sarah’s Inn and other community organizations.

          • If you are interested in becoming a 24-hour crisis line volunteer advocate, please download and complete the Sarah’s Inn volunteer application and submit two reference forms.

          • *A 40-hour Domestic Violence Advocacy Training is required to become a 24-hour crisis line volunteer advocate at Sarah's Inn. Two training sessions are offered per year at our Oak Park office. Learn more about this class: Education and Training

      • Sarah's Inn is currently accepting volunteer applications and references for the Winter 2017 training. Application & references for Winter 2017 training due January 27. Please see our training dates below (subject to change):
      • Winter 2017 Training:
        February 14-March 18
        Tuesday PM
        Saturday all day

        Summer 2017 Training:
        May 30-June 28
        Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday PM
      • Participants cannot miss more than one day of training and will have make-up assignments for any missed sessions.

  • Community Outreach and Education Volunteers

    • Community Outreach and Education volunteers serve as representatives for Sarah's Inn at community fairs, special events, and at various outreach locations within our service area. Our trained* COE volunteers play a critical role in helping to build the foundation for new partners and potential clients for Sarah's Inn.  If you are interested in becoming a COE volunteer, please download and complete the Sarah’s Inn volunteer application and submit reference forms.

    • *A one-time community outreach and education training is required to become a COE volunteer with Sarah's Inn. Two training sessions are offered per year at our Oak Park office.

    • Meal Makers

    • You can help clients who attend domestic violence support and education groups. Sign up to donate and serve a meal donation on agreed upon Wednesday or Thursday (see Sarah's Inn volunteer calendar below for open dates). Great experience for families or groups! Learn more here.

Host a Fundraiser or Drive

  • Hospitality and fundraising volunteers serve on special event and fundraising committees, help with the Sarah’s Inn Holiday Gift Project and other annual events, and host fundraising parties at their homes.  For more information on hosting a fundraiser or drive contact Susan Fritz at sfritz(at)sarahsinn.org

Volunteer as a Group

Groups and individuals complete special projects, such as painting or cleaning, as needed. If your group is interested in creating a group volunteer project, contact Mark, Volunteer & Outreach Coordinator at markt(at)sarahsinn.org to discuss available opportunities.
