National Volunteer Appreciation Week

The week of April 19-25 is recognized to honor those who do so much good in their communities for so little reward. Therefore, we at Sarah’s Inn would like to pay special recognition to a very special volunteer!

In 1992 Charlene was a special education teacher who was looking for an opportunity to volunteer with her daughter.  A long-time Oak Park resident, Charlene saw an article in the local newspaper about Sarah's Inn and applied to volunteer.  She completed her volunteer advocacy training in October, 1992.  Since that time she has been a dedicated and consistent crisis line volunteer; giving of her time every Sunday evening for nearly the past 18 years!  Recently Charlene shared her experience as a volunteer with the newest class of trainees.  Both inspirational and entertaining - she helped them find the strength and confidence within themselves to begin their volunteer service.  We can't thank Charlene enough for all she has done for the women and children we serve.  Here's to the next 18 years!

If you are interested in becoming a volunteer please contact Community Outreach & Education Manager, Colleen Sutkus at csutkus@sarahsinn.orgAnd remember to say “thank you” to the volunteers in your community!
