 We Moved!

In May, we realized that our programming office was unsafe.  Chronic leaks and mold had become hazardous and due to ongoing problems we were only able to use two-thirds of our space at any given time.  We temporarily converted our administrative offices for double-use as service space.  With support groups in our former board room and individual services in the administrative offices, it wasn’t always perfect, but we always made due.

Then in just two short months, we rehabbed our current space (which we owned), raised 88% of the capital funding (we still have 12% left to go), packed up truck-loads of files and furniture, and moved in.  There was no service interruption as we sought to keep up with greater need, especially as the state budget crisis caused service shut-downs from sister programs all around us.

Volunteers from across the country through DOOR (Discovering Opportunities Through Outreach and Reflection) donated 200 service hours to cleaning our building, packing, and helping us move.  The town of Cicero brought our lawn back to life, and our new neighbors donated most of the hospitality for our Open House in September.  As we settle in for the winter, our 100 year old building definitely has its share of quirks, but we could not be happier with the life and light inside that is already inspiring so much hope and courage.

If you were unable to attend our Open House and would like a tour of the building please contact Colleen at (708) 386-4225 x1026 or csutkus@sarahsinn.org.
