Walk with Therese
The 4th Annual "Walk with Therese" to Stop Domestic Violence will be held Saturday, August 14, at Keystone Park in River Forest. Registration will begin at 8:00 AM. A suggested donation of $20 per person includes a t-shirt and snacks/beverages. Bring your friends!
The annual walk is held in honor of Therese Acheson Pender who was killed by her husband on March 16, 2005. Organizer Samantha Satterthwaite, Therese’s niece, started the walk in 2006 with the help of her family members and close friends. “It was almost two years since my aunt had passed and we wanted to do something to bring awareness and help other victims”, said Samantha, "our hope from the beginning was to make this event bigger and bigger every year."
According to Samantha, the purpose of the event is “to celebrate my aunt’s life and to work toward a better future for other victims of abuse.” This year Samantha chose Sarah’s Inn once again to benefit from the proceeds of the walk. “We are honored that Samantha and her family have chosen to share this event with us, considering it is so close to their hearts,” said Juliet Yera, Development Director for Sarah’s Inn, “and we pledge to do our best to live up to that honor.” In 2009, the walk raised $4,620.00 for Sarah’s Inn!
